Fashion: What Is It Really?

Wikipedia definition: Fashion is a popular style or practice, especially in clothing, footwear, accessories and makeup. Fashion is a distinctive and often habitual trend in the style in which a person dresses. It is the prevailing styles in behaviour and the newest creations of textile designers. Because the more technical term costume is regularly linked to the term “fashion”, the use of the former has been relegated to special senses like fancy dress or masquerade wear, while “fashion” generally means clothing, including the study of it. Although aspects of fashion can be feminine or masculine, some trends are androgynous.

Fashion Show

Women are still the main runners and carriers of fashion to this day and age. Every woman seems to think that they know and understand what fashion is, but not a lot of people know where it originates and what it truly means to be a fashionista. People who follow trends just feed into what “style” is in season, and aren’t really being innovators of their own trends.

Fashion is a highly lucrative business and it’s doing very well for those who don’t mind looking the same as the next person in the name of trends.  True style is not something you copy from a model oversees or fashion blogs, it’s knowing what suits you best and making it your unique look.  There are many misconceptions when it comes to individual style, like the fact that celebrities have become icons of style even though most don’t even choose their own clothing.

Ultimately, women need to embrace their body types and start taking their fashion sense seriously.  Trust me when I say a person who wears branded or expensive clothing is not necessarily a fashionista or a style icon.
